My dog pees when anyone tries to talk to him/her
This is a common issue with submissive personality dogs of both sexes. It can be frustrating and messy and often times people will tell you (including trainers) that this is an issue you'll just have to deal with because it is part of the personality of the dog. While this issue cannot always be solved, there is a good chance you can solve it with patience and consistency. The most common reason for a submissive dog to urinate in the presence of the owner (or others) is during a 'greeting'. When a submissive personality dog greets a dominant personality dog, it signals it's submissiveness by rolling over and exposing its tummy and often follows that up by urination to show the lack of any threat on its part. The same interaction happens between human and submissive personality dog but is not acceptable in our case. So now you know the trigger and the reason for the response. So how do you deal with it? With counter-conditioning and trigger removal. Contact us and we will provide a consultation as well as the beginning steps to changing this behavior. Please contact us to set up your appointment.
